What is Data Matrix?
Data Matrix is a compact two-dimensional barcode that stores data in a grid of light and dark modules. It is widely used where a small physical footprint and robust decoding are important, including manufacturing, electronics, medical-device and product-marking workflows.
The commonly used ECC 200 form includes error correction and uses a distinctive finder pattern along two adjacent sides.
Data and validation
Data Matrix can encode a broader range of content than retail-only linear formats. Capacity depends on symbol size and encoding.
Barcode Next should validate that the selected payload can fit the available symbol size and should choose an appropriate symbol size automatically unless the user explicitly selects one.
Structure, size and quiet zones
A Data Matrix symbol uses an L-shaped solid finder pattern together with alternating timing patterns on the opposite sides. Larger symbols may be divided into multiple data regions.
The final physical size depends on the module size and number of modules.
