Privacy contact: support@barcodenext.com

This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Barcode Next website and desktop application.

Barcode Next is designed around local processing. The application does not require a Barcode Next account, and the barcode data you enter or import is not sent to a Barcode Next server.

1. At a glance

  • Barcode Next does not require a user account, password or social-media login.
  • Barcode values, imported datasets, settings, presets and working data are stored locally on your device.
  • Barcode and QR Code generation takes place locally in the application.
  • Generated and exported files are created on your device and saved only where you choose.
  • We do not operate a cloud backend that stores your barcode content.
  • We do not sell personal information.
  • The application does not contain advertising or behavioural-tracking SDKs.
  • Purchases are handled by the Mac App Store or Microsoft Store. We do not receive or store your payment-card details.
  • If you contact us for support, we receive the information you choose to send in that message.

2. Information stored by the application

Barcode Next may store information locally on your device in order to provide its features. Depending on how you use the application, this may include:

  • barcode and QR Code values;
  • imported CSV or other supported batch data;
  • application settings;
  • barcode appearance and layout settings;
  • saved presets;
  • recently used options or application state;
  • label-sheet and print settings; and
  • paths or filenames used for export where needed by the application.

This information is stored locally and is not uploaded to us.

If you save or export a file into a folder that is synchronised by a third-party service—such as iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or another storage provider—that service may process the file under its own privacy terms. Barcode Next does not control storage locations that you choose outside the application.

3. Information we do not collect from the app

Barcode Next does not intentionally collect or transmit the content of the barcodes or QR Codes you create.

In particular, we do not receive or maintain a server-side copy of:

  • barcode values;
  • QR Code payloads;
  • imported batch datasets;
  • generated barcode artwork;
  • exported files;
  • label layouts; or
  • saved application presets.

Barcode Next does not require access to your contacts, precise location, photos, microphone, camera or health information in order to generate barcodes.

Barcode Next does not include crash-reporting, telemetry or analytics SDKs. If this changes in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated before the relevant version is released.

4. Purchases and app stores

Barcode Next is distributed through the Mac App Store and Microsoft Store.

Apple and Microsoft may process information related to:

  • your store account;
  • purchase history;
  • payment method;
  • tax and billing information;
  • refunds;
  • download history;
  • device or store diagnostics; and
  • other information required to operate their stores.

This information is handled by Apple or Microsoft under their own terms and privacy policies.

We do not receive your payment-card number or full payment credentials.

We may receive limited purchase or licence-status information made available by the relevant store where this is necessary for the application to confirm that a licence is valid. We do not use that information to create a Barcode Next user profile.

5. Website data

The Barcode Next public website does not require an account.

Cookies and analytics

The website uses Google Analytics 4 provided by Google. Our measurement ID is G-HXB1V0RRH0.

When you first visit the website, the Google tag starts with Google Consent Mode defaults that deny analytics storage, advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation. In this state, Google may receive cookieless measurement signals that help us understand aggregate website activity and model gaps in measurement. These signals are not used to create a cookie-based individual browsing profile.

The consent notice gives you two choices:

  • Accept all. We store a consent cookie and grant Google Analytics storage plus Google advertising storage, advertising user-data and advertising-personalisation consent. This allows Google Analytics cookies and the related measurement features to operate. Where we enable or connect relevant Google advertising products, these permissions may also support advertising measurement, audience and personalisation features.
  • Essential only. We store only the cookie that remembers this choice. Google Analytics and Google advertising cookies remain disabled, while cookieless measurement signals may still be sent through Google Consent Mode.

The required consent cookie is named barcode_next_consent. It records either all or essential, is set for the whole Barcode Next website and expires after 180 days. It is used only to remember your choice. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings control in the website footer.

Google Analytics may process information about how the website is used, including pages viewed, interactions, browser and device information, and approximate location derived from IP address. Google processes this information under its own Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

The website is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub and the infrastructure providers involved in delivering the website may automatically process limited technical request information such as:

  • IP address;
  • browser and device information;
  • requested URL; and
  • date and time of the request.

This processing is carried out by those providers as necessary to deliver, secure and operate the hosting service and is subject to their own privacy practices.

6. Support correspondence

If you contact us by email or another support channel, we receive the information you choose to provide.

This may include:

  • your email address;
  • your name, if included;
  • the content of your message;
  • screenshots or files you voluntarily attach; and
  • technical information you choose to provide about the application or your device.

We use this information only to respond to the request, troubleshoot the issue, protect our rights, or comply with legal obligations.

Please do not send confidential barcode datasets, private customer databases, passwords, payment information or other sensitive information unless it is genuinely necessary for the support request.

Support correspondence may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to handle the request, maintain appropriate business records, resolve disputes, or comply with applicable law.

7. Data deletion and your choices

Because Barcode Next application data is stored locally, you control that data through your device and the application.

You can remove local application data by:

  • deleting individual data or presets where the application provides that option;
  • removing exported files from the folders where you saved them; or
  • uninstalling the application and removing its remaining local data through the operating system where applicable.

Files that you have copied, backed up or synchronised through another service must be deleted from that service separately.

Because we do not maintain a server-side Barcode Next account or a database of your barcode content, in most cases we do not have a remote copy that we can access or delete for you.

If you want us to delete support correspondence or other personal information that we actually hold, contact us using the address below. Legal retention requirements may apply in limited cases.

8. Security

Keeping barcode content local reduces the amount of application data that needs to be transmitted to us.

However, no device or storage system is completely secure. You are responsible for securing:

  • your computer;
  • your operating-system account;
  • exported files;
  • backups;
  • shared folders; and
  • any third-party cloud-storage location you choose to use.

If barcode data is commercially sensitive, choose export and storage locations appropriate for that information.

9. Third-party services

Barcode Next relies on platform and distribution services provided by third parties, including:

  • Apple, for the Mac App Store and related platform services;
  • Microsoft, for the Microsoft Store and related platform services; and
  • GitHub, for public website hosting where the website is hosted through GitHub Pages.
  • Google, for Google Analytics and Google Consent Mode on the public website.

Those providers process information under their own privacy policies.

Barcode Next may also link to external websites. Following an external link takes you to a service that we do not control.

10. International processing

Apple, Microsoft, GitHub and other infrastructure providers may process information in countries outside your country of residence.

Where applicable, those providers are responsible for the legal mechanisms they use for their own international data processing.

We do not operate a remote database containing your Barcode Next barcode content.

11. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning personal information that we actually hold about you, such as the right to request access, correction or deletion.

Because Barcode Next does not use user accounts and does not store your barcode content on our servers, we may have very little or no application-related personal information about you.

If you have contacted us for support or otherwise provided personal information directly to us, you may contact us to exercise an applicable privacy right.

We may ask for reasonable information to verify a request before acting on it.

If you are in the European Economic Area, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data-protection authority in your country of residence, place of work or place of the alleged infringement.

12. Children's privacy

Barcode Next is a general-purpose professional barcode and QR Code creation tool and is not designed to collect personal information from children.

The application does not require an account or ask for age information.

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if Barcode Next, the website, our service providers or applicable legal requirements change.

The current version will be published on this page with an updated effective date.

If a future product change causes Barcode Next to collect or transmit information that is currently processed only locally, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.
