These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the Barcode Next website and desktop application.
1. Agreement to these Terms
By downloading, purchasing, installing, accessing or using Barcode Next, you agree to these Terms and the Barcode Next Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the application.
Where Barcode Next is purchased or downloaded through the Mac App Store or Microsoft Store, the applicable store terms also apply. If a mandatory store term conflicts with these Terms, the mandatory store term applies to the extent of that conflict.
The Barcode Next website uses cookies and Google Analytics as described in the Privacy Policy. Your use of the website is also subject to the cookie choices you make through its consent notice.
2. What Barcode Next does
Barcode Next is desktop software for creating, validating, styling, exporting and printing supported 1D and 2D barcode formats.
Depending on the selected barcode type and workflow, features may include:
- barcode and QR Code generation;
- data validation;
- barcode-specific layout controls;
- visual customization;
- vector and raster export;
- RGB and CMYK-oriented output;
- batch generation from multiple records;
- data import;
- label-sheet layout and printing; and
- reusable application presets.
The exact feature set may vary by version, operating system, barcode type and platform limitations.
3. Licence grant
Subject to these Terms and payment of the applicable purchase price, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Barcode Next in accordance with the rules of the store through which you obtained it.
The licence permits personal and commercial use of Barcode Next.
You may use barcode and QR Code artwork created with the application in your own personal, professional and commercial work, subject to any third-party rights, barcode-assignment rules, industry standards or regulatory requirements that apply to the underlying data or use case.
The licence applies to the software. It does not grant ownership of Barcode Next, its source code, interface, branding or other intellectual property.
4. Lifetime licence and no subscription
Barcode Next is sold as a lifetime licence and does not require a recurring Barcode Next subscription to continue using the functionality included with your purchase.
For these Terms, “lifetime licence” means that the licence itself does not expire after a monthly or annual billing period.
The lifetime licence includes future Barcode Next software updates and future major versions made available for the same supported platform/store licence, without an additional Barcode Next upgrade fee.
The lifetime licence does not mean that we guarantee:
- that every future operating-system version will remain compatible with the application;
- that the application will remain available for redownload from a third-party store forever;
- perpetual technical support; or
- uninterrupted operation of third-party store or operating-system services.
Where technically possible and permitted by the relevant store, you may continue to use Barcode Next under your purchase for as long as you choose, subject to these Terms.
Future updates or major versions may change system requirements or supported operating-system versions.
5. Platform and store purchases
Barcode Next is distributed through the Mac App Store and Microsoft Store.
Purchases, billing, payment methods, transaction processing and store-level licence entitlement are handled by the relevant store.
A purchase made through one store or platform does not grant a separate licence through another store or platform.
The Mac App Store and Microsoft Store versions are licensed separately. Purchasing Barcode Next through the Mac App Store does not create a Microsoft Store licence, and purchasing it through the Microsoft Store does not create a Mac App Store licence.
Apple and Microsoft may impose their own limits on device installation, family sharing, account use, redownloads and licence restoration.
6. Refunds and consumer rights
Purchases made through the Mac App Store or Microsoft Store are processed by the relevant store.
Refund requests should normally be submitted through the store where the purchase was made and are subject to that store's processes and applicable law.
Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
If you are a consumer, you may have statutory rights concerning digital content, conformity, remedies, refunds or other consumer protections under the law applicable to you.
7. Your data and generated output
Barcode Next processes barcode data locally on your device.
You retain any rights you have in:
- barcode values you enter;
- imported datasets;
- logos or other assets you use;
- presets or layouts you create; and
- exported barcode or QR Code artwork.
As between you and us, we do not claim ownership of your barcode data or exported artwork merely because it was created using Barcode Next.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to use any data, logo, trademark, image or other material that you provide to the application.
8. Barcode numbers, identifiers and standards
Barcode Next is a creation tool. It does not assign official product identifiers, company prefixes, ISBNs, GTINs or other identifiers on behalf of GS1, ISBN agencies, postal operators, regulators or other standards organisations.
You are responsible for obtaining any identifier, prefix, number range or registration that your use case requires.
Generating a mathematically valid barcode does not by itself mean that the underlying identifier has been officially assigned to you.
You are also responsible for determining which barcode format is appropriate for your particular product, document, shipment, label or workflow.
9. Validation, print quality and scanability
Barcode Next includes validation and barcode-specific controls intended to help create technically correct symbols.
However, real-world barcode performance depends on factors outside the software, including:
- printer resolution and calibration;
- print process;
- ink and substrate;
- physical barcode size;
- quiet zones;
- contrast;
- scaling after export;
- packaging distortion;
- scanner type;
- camera quality;
- lighting; and
- the requirements of a particular industry or trading partner.
You are responsible for verifying final output before production or distribution.
For critical production workflows, use appropriate barcode-verification equipment and follow the specifications required by your standards organisation, customer, retailer, carrier, regulator or other relevant party.
Barcode Next does not guarantee that every barcode will scan successfully in every environment or that a symbol will satisfy every industry-specific or regulatory requirement.
10. Styled and customized barcodes
Barcode Next may allow visual customization of supported barcode and QR Code formats, including colors, module shapes, finder styling, logos and other appearance settings.
Customization can affect readability.
You are responsible for testing styled symbols in the actual environment in which they will be used.
In particular, adding logos, reducing contrast, modifying shapes, printing at very small sizes or otherwise changing the appearance of a barcode may reduce scanner reliability even where the application allows the configuration.
11. Permitted use
You may use Barcode Next for lawful personal, professional and commercial purposes.
You may create barcode artwork for:
- your own projects;
- your employer;
- your clients; and
- products, packaging, labels, documents and other lawful commercial materials.
You may not:
- copy, redistribute or resell the Barcode Next application itself except where applicable law expressly permits;
- share a store account or licence in violation of the relevant store's rules;
- attempt to bypass purchase or licence checks;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the application except where applicable law gives you a non-waivable right to do so;
- interfere with the operation or security of the application;
- use the Barcode Next name, branding or interface in a way that falsely suggests endorsement or ownership; or
- use the application for unlawful activity.
12. Intellectual property
Barcode Next, including its software, source code, interface, documentation, website, branding, logos and original materials, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
These Terms give you permission to use the application; they do not transfer ownership of the application or our intellectual property.
Names and specifications of barcode standards may belong to or be administered by third parties. References to those standards are used to describe application compatibility and functionality and do not imply sponsorship or endorsement.
13. Third-party standards, platforms and services
Barcode Next may implement or refer to standards administered by independent organisations and may rely on operating-system and store services provided by Apple or Microsoft.
Those organisations and services are independent from Barcode Next.
We may modify or discontinue support for a feature if a platform, standard, operating system, third-party requirement or technical dependency changes in a way that reasonably requires us to do so.
14. Updates and compatibility
We may release updates to improve security, compatibility, reliability, barcode support or functionality.
Operating systems, store APIs, printing systems and hardware change over time. We therefore cannot guarantee indefinite compatibility with every future version of macOS, Windows, printer driver, graphics system or hardware configuration.
An update may change, add or remove functionality where reasonably necessary to:
- maintain compatibility;
- fix defects;
- improve security;
- correct barcode behavior;
- comply with law or store rules; or
- develop the product.
Where practical, we aim to avoid unnecessary disruption to existing workflows.
15. Availability
Barcode Next is provided as desktop software and most barcode-generation functionality is intended to operate locally.
Certain distribution, purchase, installation, update or licence-verification functions may depend on Apple, Microsoft, your operating system or internet connectivity.
We do not guarantee that third-party stores or platform services will always be available.
16. Backups and data responsibility
Because application data and files are stored locally, you are responsible for maintaining appropriate backups of:
- datasets;
- presets;
- exported artwork;
- label configurations; and
- other files that are important to your workflow.
We are not responsible for local data loss caused by device failure, operating-system failure, accidental deletion, storage corruption, third-party synchronisation software or failure to maintain backups, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
17. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Barcode Next is provided “as is” and “as available”.
We do not warrant that:
- the application will be completely error-free;
- every barcode configuration will be suitable for every production environment;
- every generated symbol will scan with every scanner;
- every third-party standard or customer specification will be satisfied automatically; or
- the software will remain compatible with every future platform version.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties, remedies or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
18. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including mandatory consumer rights and any other liability that applicable law requires us to retain.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive losses, or for loss of profit, revenue, business opportunity, goodwill or data arising from the use of Barcode Next.
In particular, you are responsible for verifying barcodes before mass printing, production, shipment or other use where an invalid or unreadable symbol could cause material loss.
Subject to the paragraphs above, our total liability for claims relating to Barcode Next will not exceed the greater of:
- the amount you paid for Barcode Next; or
- HUF 50,000.
This limitation does not apply where applicable law does not permit the liability to be limited or excluded.
19. Suspension or termination
You may stop using Barcode Next at any time.
We may terminate or restrict a licence where permitted by applicable law if we reasonably determine that:
- the purchase has been refunded or revoked;
- the licence was obtained fraudulently;
- licence or store protections have been deliberately bypassed; or
- the application is being used in a way that materially breaches these Terms.
Termination does not affect rights or obligations that by their nature should continue after termination.
20. Changes to Barcode Next
We may develop, modify or discontinue parts of Barcode Next over time.
We may also stop distributing the application in the future.
A lifetime licence is not a promise that the product will be actively developed, sold or supported forever. It describes the non-subscription nature of the licence you purchased, subject to Section 4.
21. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect:
- product changes;
- platform or store changes;
- legal requirements; or
- changes to our business operations.
The current version will be published on this page with an updated effective date.
Where applicable law requires additional notice or consent for a material change, we will provide it.
22. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by Hungarian law, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules that apply in the consumer's country of residence.
Courts with jurisdiction under applicable law will have jurisdiction over disputes relating to these Terms or Barcode Next.
Nothing in this section limits a consumer's right to bring a claim before a court that mandatory law makes available to them.
