What is GS1 DataMatrix?
GS1 DataMatrix combines the compact Data Matrix ECC 200 symbol with GS1's structured Application Identifier system.
It is widely used when supply-chain or product data needs to fit into a small 2D symbol, including regulated and traceability-oriented workflows.
Data and validation
Like GS1-128, GS1 DataMatrix uses Application Identifiers to define the meaning and format of each element. Variable-length fields require correct separation when followed by additional data.
The final encoded data also needs GS1-specific signaling so that scanners interpret the content as a GS1 element string rather than ordinary Data Matrix text.
