What is PDF417?
PDF417 is a stacked two-dimensional barcode made from multiple rows of linear codewords. It is designed to carry substantially more data than typical 1D barcodes while retaining a rectangular form that works well in documents and identification workflows.
The symbol can be configured with different row/column arrangements and error-correction levels.
Data and validation
PDF417 supports text and other data modes. Final symbol dimensions depend on the payload, row/column configuration and error-correction settings.
Barcode Next should prevent impossible combinations and provide a usable default configuration when the user does not need manual sizing.
Structure, size and quiet zones
PDF417 uses multiple stacked rows with start/stop patterns and row indicators. The symbol is normally wider than it is tall, although the exact aspect ratio is configurable.
