Retail
ISBN barcode generator and reference
Generate ISBN-compatible book barcodes with EAN-13 encoding, optional price add-ons and professional print output.
What is ISBN?
Retail book barcodes are commonly represented using an EAN-13 symbol derived from the book's ISBN. Publishing workflows may also add a 2- or 5-digit supplemental symbol next to the main barcode, for example to carry additional price-related information.
The underlying retail barcode behavior therefore follows EAN-13 rules while adding publishing-specific data handling.
Data and validation
Barcode Next should validate the supplied ISBN or corresponding EAN-form identifier and generate the final EAN-13 symbol correctly.
Where supplemental add-ons are supported, they should be handled as a separate data field rather than manually appended to the primary ISBN value.
Structure, size and quiet zones
The main symbol uses standard EAN-13 structure. Optional supplemental symbols are positioned to the right with their own spacing requirements.
Barcode Next support
Generate individual ISBN barcodes, process publication lists in batch mode, control text and layout, and export print-ready vector artwork for book covers.
